French Student Honored

French major, Tibor Gal, has won the Grand Prix ($1000), Category A, in this year’s Maison Française contest that took place on April 18, 2012. The competition encourages continued mastery of the French language and knowledge, and appreciation of francophone cultures.

The Maison Française de Cleveland, an American non-profit organization in greater Cleveland, promotes Franco-American cultural activities.   Since 1976, it has held an annual contest for the students of French from the public and private high schools of Cuyahoga County and for full-time undergraduate students from the colleges and universities of Northeastern Ohio.  French majors from the UA have consistently excelled in the competition and won prizes every year, with only one exception in 2009, since 2002.
