Dr. Gary Holliday, professor and assistant director in the LeBron James Family Foundation School of Education, has a new leadership role as a faculty fellow for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Belonging (IDEB) for the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences.

As a member of the dean's leadership team, Holliday will lead efforts to develop and enhance the College's commitment to IDEB activities in all areas. Initiatives include engaging the College and community in diversity and equity conversations and training; working with faculty, staff and students to create a more inclusive curriculum; supporting underrepresented groups, including students, faculty, staff and alumni; and collaborating on research initiatives that explore the impact of IDEB in higher education.

"Dr. Holliday has many years of multifaceted experience both in higher education and the community setting in advancing diversity and inclusion," remarked Dean Mitchell S. McKinney. "I'm confident he will help us advance our strategic priority and goals to strengthen inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging across the College."

Holliday begins his appointment on Oct. 15.

Building an inclusive educational community

Throughout his academic career, Holliday has been dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in both teaching and research. These experiences provide him with valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with building a more diverse and inclusive educational community, which have strengthened his commitment to making lasting changes in higher education.

“I see an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to develop and implement strategies that enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus,” Holliday remarked. “I am particularly excited about the prospect of engaging with faculty, staff, and students to create a more inclusive curriculum and support underrepresented groups in academia. Additionally, I am eager to collaborate on research initiatives that explore the impact of diversity and inclusion in higher education.”
