UA Board chair honored by NAACP

Ann Amer Brennan


Ann Amer Brennan, chair of The University of Akron’s Board of Trustees, was honored recently by the Akron chapter of the NAACP. She was recognized with the 2011 Award Recognition of Living Legends in a ceremony that was held on Feb. 8 at St. Paul AME Church in Akron. The award recognizes community members who have worked to make a difference in others’ lives. Brennan, along with 27 other award recipients, received an Unsung Hero Leading by Example Award certificate and a certificate of recognition from U.S. Congresswoman Betty Sutton.

Brennan was appointed to the UA Board in 2003. She has been active in many community organizations, including service on the Ohio Arts Council for 10 years. Brennan also is a past chair of the Summa Health System Board of Directors and the Akron Community Foundation. She served on the Hiram College Board of Trustees for 12 years and was chair of its finance committee. A 2003 recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award from The University of Akron, Brennan received a B.A. degree from UA and a J.D. degree from the UA School of Law.

Her husband, David Brennan, endowed the Brennan Chair in the School of Law in 1985. The Brennans have four children and 10 grandchildren. Ann Brennan’s term on the UA Board expires in July 2012.
