Dr. Wilder, of Akron, received the reappointment to serve on the advisory committee for another two years from DOE Secretary Steven Chu.

“The methane hydrates program at DOE seeks to develop this significant, unconventional fossil energy resource in support of current U.S. DOE research priorities,” says Wilder, who joined UA as a department chair in 2006. Prior, Wilder spent two years at the National Energy Technology Laboratory overseeing the modeling of the impact of all research and development efforts conducted on behalf of the DOE by the Office of Fossil Energy.

Wilder was appointed to the committee to provide his expertise in methane hydrate computer simulation.  The committee, Wilder says, could assume a role in supporting the continuing need for fossil fuels during any transition to alternative energy sources.
