Green Energy Ohio (GEO) kicked off its 2021 Statewide Electric Vehicle Tour and made The University of Akron one of their first stops on Monday, June 7. GEO is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable energy policies, technologies, and practices.

Jane Harf, GEO’s executive director, visited with members of the Zips Racing Electric Car Team and the team’s faculty advisor, Dr. Dan Deckler.

Established in 1989, Zips Racing is UA’s Formula SAE team. The team provides students with hands-on experience and shows the application of in-class learning to working in industry. Team Captain Elena Falcione showed off the team’s electric formula race car that will compete in the Formula SAE Electric Race Series in Michigan next month.  Elena also gave a tour of the Design Center, showing the workspace where the car is designed and built.

“We were honored to be one of the few colleges on the Green Energy Ohio tour and show off our student-designed electric powered vehicle,” says Dr. Deckler. “I am extremely proud of the team’s hard work and I am confident this is the beginning of a new future where The University of Akron’s Formula E Team will be the team to beat!”
