For Emma Rowbotham, The University of Akron checked all the boxes she considered as an incoming college student.

“The tuition was a a good price that my family and I could afford, and I really liked that I was able to transfer all of my college credit plus courses that I took in high school,” Emma says. “I had taken about 35 of them. So it was really important to me to be able to have all of those credits come over easily.

In the semester she’s been on campus, Emma has explored Akron and says she has found a wide swath of advantages. “The University is not just a university, it's a community of people that really just support you no matter what your degree is. It’s a place that you're really gonna be able to succeed in.”

An accounting major, Emma says she is enjoying the College of Business experience. “I'd have to say I'm really impressed with the College of Business. I'm already going through the process of looking for an internship and going through interviews, and I just think that that's fantastic.

“It really shows that the University and the College of Business specifically is really looking out for us as students and really wanting us to do well in our futures,” Emma says.

Moving about the campus, Emma has made new friends and explores new opportunities. She attributes her ability to do that to her biggest fan, her mom.

“I think my role model would have to be my mom because she's such a strong, confident woman, and I look up to her in every way,” Emma says. “Since I was little, my mom has taught me to be friends with everyone, do my best in all my activities, and then through my education. So, I think I've just carried that throughout my lifetime.”

Emma says she expects to have an outstanding Akron collegiate experience.

“There is a lot of camaraderie between the students and the professors, it’s just a supportive community. All in all, everyone here is kind of like a family and it's just an exciting place to be. Awesome.”

A recipient of the Galen J. Roush Memorial Scholarship for Business, Emma says she also has great appreciation for the generosity of University donors and their ability to impact students’ campus experiences.

“Those donors have allowed students to feel a little bit of less pressure on them so they can go through and enjoy the life of a college student and not feel the extra pressure of having to work an extra shift or two for their job,” Emma says.
