Dr. Heather Oravec receives 2024 ASCE Civil Engineer of the Year Award
We are proud to announce that Dr. Heather Oravec, mechanical engineering research associate professor, has been named the ASCE Cleveland Chapter 2024 Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year. This prestigious award honors a civil engineer who has made significant contributions to the field and to the community, furthering the recognition of civil engineers through work and influence.
Oravec was selected for this honor due to her innovative research in terramechanics and off-road tire development for planetary rovers at NASA Glenn Research Center. Her work has played a pivotal role in advancing space exploration and enhancing the design of rovers for planetary missions.
Beyond her technical expertise, Oravec is also a passionate advocate for STEM education. She has made significant contributions to inspiring the next generation of engineers through a variety of philanthropic events, engaging students from elementary age to college level. Her dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion in engineering makes her a true leader in the field.
As part of her award, Oravec will be presenting at the joint Akron/Cleveland Section meeting in February 2025.
