The IQ Zoo: An Online Exhibit
The Drs. Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings Center for the History of Psychology has launched its first online exhibit, a history of the IQ Zoo. The IQ Zoo was an animal training facility and tourist attraction in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Students of B. F. Skinner, Keller and Marian Breland used the principles of behaviorist psychology to train chickens, rabbits, pigs, raccoons, and other animals to perform tricks for the public. The couple would later go on to work with advertising companies, the government, and the entertainment industry, putting their animal training skills to work in a wide variety of settings.
