Sustainability Student Organizations
See below all sustainability related student organizations at UA.
Environmental Action (EA):
Environmental Action (EA) at UAkron is a registered student organization focused on spreading environmental awareness through education and activism. Since their start on campus, EA has consistently offered a space for students to share their love for nature while being a part of a large, environmentally conscious community at the University. Through their meetings, hikes, and park clean ups, EA has made a lasting impact on campus and the surrounding community.
Throughout the past few years, Environmental Action has collaborated with other student organizations on campus including Engineers for a Sustainable World, Urban Agriculture, Society of Women Engineers, and the Geosciences Club. Some of the most popular events for EA members have included Stress Less craft events and service projects like making upcycled dog toys. Recently, EA has worked on bringing the Ohio Lights Out project back to campus due to an increase of students interested in migratory bird safety and awareness.
Environmental Action meetings for the Spring 2025 semester will be held on the first and third Wednesday of every month from 6-7pm. Hikes or park clean-ups will also be held every weekend. EA plans to continue environmental trivia nights, sustainable craft making, and collaborations with the Akron Zoo for the Ohio Lights Out project throughout the year. Engineers for a Sustainable World
The registered Student-Led Organization, Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) at Akron is a chapter focused on smaller-scale demonstrations of sustainability. As a club, we focus on impacts such as campus clean-ups and assisting with athletic clean-ups to keep our campus spotless. We have held some hiking events and have held general body meetings with a sustainable craft or presentation for our members from each design team to connect and share their passion for the environment. Each of our design teams focuses on a different form of sustainability. Our Zips Precious Plastics and Ecobrick teams work on more traditional recycling initiatives, primarily working with plastic recycling. Our Education Team is involved with outreach events for students, both in collegiate and pre-collegiate levels of schooling. No matter your area of expertise, ESW Akron has a little bit of something for anyone interested in sustainability!
We have collaborated with various student organizations on campus to promote sustainability. We have work with EA, Engineering Student Council (ESC), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and more each semester! Our most popular event is DIY Paper Making that our design team, Education Team typically hosts.
Our meeting times change depending on students’ schedules. Check out the ESW Instagram @esw_akron for more details and remember to join as a member on RooConnect! Here is our website to learn more about ESW https://eswakron.wixsite.com/eswakron
