APPLY NOW FOR STEM SCHOLARSHIPS

Current UA students and high school students interesting in pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics are encouraged to apply today for a Choose Ohio First STEM Scholarship. Above, an award-winning student design team from UA's highly regarded College of Engineering.

The University of Akron has opened its 2010-11 Choose Ohio First STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Scholarship program application period. Choose Ohio First provides a renewable scholarship of as much as one-half of annual tuition costs, or $4,700, for up to four years to students pursuing STEM-related degrees at UA. More than 140 such scholarships are available. Applications are due by March 15.

Current students or high school seniors are eligible if planning to pursue bachelor’s degrees at UA in

  • geosciences;
  • engineering;
  • biological, physical, mathematics or computer and information sciences; or
  • technology related to these disciplines are eligible.

Students pursuing teacher education degrees in STEM fields also are eligible.

The program was designed to support students through their studies at UA. Choose Ohio First STEM scholars are selected in cohorts, receive advising and participate in related internships, projects and presentations as well as activities that provide peer-to-peer support, including social events. Scholarship recipients must:

  • maintain full-time student enrollment status,
  • remain in good academic status and
  • make continued progress toward earning a degree in a STEM field.
