Chair of Knight Foundation is next Roundtable speaker

Robert Briggs


Robert Briggs, president of the GAR Foundation and chairman of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, will speak at the Thursday, Dec. 8, meeting of the Akron Roundtable. The event begins at noon in the Quaker Station ballroom.

Briggs also is the chairman emeritus and former CEO of Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLP. The presentation is sponsored by the Roundtable and The University of Akron.

A graduate of Duke University, Briggs earned his law degree at The Ohio State University. An active member of the Akron community, Briggs is:

  • a board member and former co-chair of One Community;
  • a board member and chair of Invent Now, Inc., parent of The National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation; and
  • founding chair and current member of the Fund For Out Economic Future, an unprecedented collaboration of more than 80 philanthropists in Northeast Ohio.

He also serves on the board of FirstMerit Corp., and the Buckeye Oil Producing Co., among others.

Briggs has received honors and recognition for his service to his profession and community, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Akron Community Foundation, the Honorary Alumni Award from The University of Akron, The Sir Thomas More Award from the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Foundation and the Akron Bar Association, and the Harold K. Stubbs Humanitarian Award.
