UA Dance Company performing March 31 and April 1

03/24/2011

Alexandra Beller, artistic director of Alexandra Beller/Dances in New York City, is among the choreographers featured in the spring concert of The University of Akron Dance Company on March 31 and April 1, 8 p.m., at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, 198 Hill St. on the UA campus.

Beller's "what comes after happy" is excerpted from an evening-length piece that premiered in New York in 2009 and has toured internationally since. Also on the program are works by UA dance faculty choreographers.

Erich Yetter has set his classical ballet to music by Beethoven, Tom Smith has set his modern work to music by Steve Reich, and Robin Prichard has set her work to music by the American indie rock band called Death Cab for Cutie. The contemporary ballet piece by Cydney Spohn will feature the music of J.S. Bach, performed live by pianist Michelle Mills and violinist Angela Leonardi.

The dancers are students from the UA Dance Program, along with students from the UA Theatre Program and the UA Dance Institute, a pre-professional dance program for children ages 3-18 and adults.

Tickets are available in advance and at the door for $12 general admission, $10 seniors/faculty/staff/alumni/parents, and $6 students. Call the Thomas Hall Ticket Office at 330-972-7570 or visit UAEVENTS.com.
