As businesses seek to increase their information technology (IT) offerings, their need for trained IT professionals continues to grow, according to a Sept. 14, 2010, Job.com article. So what is this booming career path all about? Girls in grades eight to 10 are invited to find out at We Are IT Day, hosted by The University of Akron’s Summit College, Friday, Nov. 19, at the Taylor Institute, located in UA's Polsky Building, 225 S. Main, Akron.

Attendees will explore the field of information technology through hands-on activities and conversations with female IT professionals. A tour of the UA campus is included in the day’s activities.

“The mission of this event is to attract young women to the in-demand and highly compensated careers in information technology,” says Kelly Herold, coordinator of UA’s Summit College We Are IT Day. Herold adds that the event is statewide and held at various sites, in addition to UA.

Applications, due Oct. 1, are available at Akron Area College Tech Prep, or by calling Kelly Herold at 330-972-8832.
