New director joins UA School of Communication

Elizabeth E. Graham


Elizabeth E. Graham is the new director of the School of Communication at The University of Akron.

Graham comes to UA from Ohio University (OU), where she was a longtime communication professor and held leadership posts as director of undergraduate studies and associate director for the School of Interpersonal Communication. She also was OU’s ombudsperson for six years, helping to resolve campus disputes and promote fairness on campus.

In 2008 the Ohio Communication Association honored Graham with its Distinguished Teacher Award.

A widely published expert in interpersonal and family communication, and communication research measures, Graham serves on the editorial boards of an array of professional publications, including the Communication Education and the Journal of Family Communication.

A native of Cleveland Heights, Graham holds a doctorate from Kent State University, a master’s degree from Cleveland State University, and a bachelor’s degree from John Carroll University.

The School of Communication at The University of Akron has nearly 1,200 majors and is among the largest of its kind in Ohio. The school offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in business and organizational communication, public relations, interpersonal and public communication, media production, news, and radio and television.
