UA’s School of Music director elected to prestigious post

Dr. William K. Guegold


Dr. William K. Guegold, director of the School of Music at The University of Akron for the past 13 years, has been elected president-elect of the North Central Division of MENC: The National Association for Music Education. The division is comprised of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. 

Guegold will begin his term in July and assume the presidency in July 2012. As president, he will serve on the National Executive Board of MENC.  He was president of the Ohio Music Education Association from 1994-1996.

MENC: The National Association for Music Education, which is among the world's largest arts education organizations, marked its centennial in 2007 as the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. Headquartered at the National Center for Music Education in Reston, Va., it has a membership of more than 75,000 active, retired and pre-service music teachers, and with 60,000 honor students and supporters, it serves millions of students nationwide through activities at all teaching levels, from preschool to graduate school.

Guegold, who joined UA in 1991, is an active guest conductor, clinician and speaker, and has received several awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Music Education Association in 2005 and the Olympic Order from the International Olympic Committee in 2000.
