Kiara Bowens will be the student speaker at the Fall 2024 Commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m. in the James A. Rhodes Arena. She is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work.

Q: Why did you want to go to UA?
A: It’s close to home so it makes the commute a lot easier for work.
Q: What campus activities were you involved in?
A: I was not involved in any campus activities. I worked during the day, so I took evening classes.
Q: What campus honors or awards have you received?
A: I’ve been on the Dean’s List and I was also named a 2024 National Association of Social Workers Student of the Year.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I plan to continue working to develop more skills in the field of social work. I hope to apply for the master’s program and study for licensure.
Q: What is your favorite memory of UA?
A: My favorite memory is going through this process with my peers. Some graduated in the spring, but many of us have had several classes together.
Q: What unique things should we know about you?
A: It took me 14 years to get to this point. Delayed but never denied.
