Computer/Technology Certificate and Endorsement Option
The University of Akron’s Computer/Technology Certificate and Endorsement option prepares K-12 licensed educators in topics related to Instructional Technology and Instructional Design. Licensed teachers can add a K-12 Computer/Technology endorsement to any standard teaching license such as Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, Intervention Specialist, Adolescence to Young Adult (AYA), or Multi-Age licenses. The Graduate K-12 Computer/Technology Endorsement is intended for teachers who wish to serve as a technology integration mentor/facilitator for colleagues in their schools and districts.
The certificate is also appropriate for those in other professional settings where instructional design skills are required.
Requirements:
- The computer/technology endorsement is added to an existing state teaching license.
- Teachers who wish to add the endorsement must successfully complete the 18 credit hours of coursework in the program and also take and pass the Assessments for Educators (OAE) Tests 046/047.zProspective students should apply to the Certificate in Educational Technology graduate program through the University of Akron Graduate School application. . Upon completion of the coursework, students earn a graduate-level certificate issued by the University. Also, upon completion of the coursework and passage of the Computer/Technology OAEs, students apply to the state Department of Education to have the Computer/Techology endorsement added to their state teaching license, at which time, the School of Education verifies the student's completion. This program is an approved state program for the Computer/Technology endorsement.
The courses in this endorsement program can be applied towards the Master's in Curriculum and Instruction area of concentration.

EDIT 610 Introduction to Instructional Technology (3 credit hours)
Introduction of the Instructional Technology program including overview modules focused on the ISTE NETS-T standards and fundamental knowledge and skills ofdigital media. Guidance and planning for the field experiences providing an opportunity to integrate student coursework, theory, and experience into workplace settings.
EDIT 614 Technology Leadership and Planning (3 credit hours) (pre/co-req is EDIT 610)
Emphasizes the process of 3 planning for the use of technology in the school. Includes plans for faculty support, grant-
writing, alternative arrangements of computer set-ups and planning for staff development.
EDIT 631 Instructional Design (3 credit hours) (pre/co-req is EDIT 610)
The theory and practice of Instructional 3 Design (ID) involves a systematic approach to the analysis, design, development, evaluation, and implementation of effective instruction.
EDIT 632 Designing Online Learning (3 credit hours) (pre/co-req is EDIT 610)
The emphasis of this course will be 3 placed on creating a highly interactive, portfolio-quality online learning modules/courses that can be used to enhance or supplement traditional methods of instructional delivery.
EDIT 633 Interactive Web Design and Development (3 credit hours) (pre/co-req is EDIT 610)
The purpose of this 3 course is to introduce students to a variety of hypermedia and multimedia tools. Students will design and develop an interactive website through integrating digital media in a web-based format to support learning.
EDIT 638 Integrating and Implementing Technology (3 credit hours) (pre/co-req is EDIT 610)
This course is 3 designed to equip teachers with tools, resources, and strategies to support the integration and implementation of effective use of technology in the classroom to support student learning and achievement.
