Advancing Leaders Recognition Reception

The Advisory Board for the Institute for Leadership Advancement cordially invites you to the Advancing Leaders Recognition Reception on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. The reception will celebrate outstanding students and employers for their achievements, demonstrated leadership, and professional development.


Outstanding Intern of the Year Nomination

The Outstanding Intern of the Year nominations will be assessed via the criteria below. Eligible internships would have had service dates between Summer 2023 to present. Remote internships are eligible and encouraged to participate.

Criteria for Selection:

  1. Demonstrated outstanding performance results:
    • Completed performance objectives and tasks assigned.
    • Creative and innovative problem-solver.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in performance of job duties.
  2. Made contributions to the Employer during internship:
    • Proficiency in performance of job duties – went above & beyond expectations.
    • Introduced significant improvement, new way of working, or innovation that was implemented within organization.
    • Made a difference & left an impact on the organization or a particular project.
  3. Demonstrated leadership skills:
    • Takes initiative and leads/contributes to teams.
    • Builds relationships with co-workers, managers, and teams.
    • Displayed ethical behavior and decision-making.
  4. Demonstrated professional development & maturity:
    • Demonstrated strong work ethic, willingness to learn, natural curiosity, and self-confidence.
    • Effective communication (verbal and written); follows directions; meets deadlines.
    • Seeks to understand the bigger picture; thinks strategically.
    • Established and expanded professional network.
  5. Internship Advocate:
    • Embodied organizational culture and acts as champion of the Employer.
    • Stewards the relationship between the students, the University, and the employer.
    • Acts as ambassador/advocate for internship program/opportunities.

Mentor/Manager of the Year Award Nomination

The Outstanding Intern Manager/Mentor of the Year nominations will be assessed via the criteria below.

Criteria for Selection:

  1. Demonstrated and modeled key attributes of a successful leader:
    • Active listening, provides feedback and assists in professional development.
    • Embodies & demonstrates organizational culture, mission, and vision; displays professionalism, business ethics, empathy, and effectively communicates.
    • Champions the overall internship program and contributes to the success of the program (ex., hiring, recruiting, on-boarding, etc.).
  2. Provided a meaningful internship experience through real-work assignments and involvement in organizational activities and teams:
    • Provided specific goals, tasks and projects to develop student knowledge and skills; provide real work and contribute to the organization; provide opportunity to work autonomously.
    • Work with interns as peers or in team environment.
    • Memorable & rewarding professional experience.
  3. Provided networking opportunities with internal and external contacts:
    • Internal networking opportunities cross-functionally and/or across various levels (ex., intern to intern, intern to manager, functional leader, etc.).
    • External opportunities (community, trade organizations, etc.).
  4. Provided professional development opportunities beyond daily tasks and assignments:
    • Provided feedback and performance evaluations in addition to regularly scheduled one-on-one opportunities with managers.
    • Provide mentors; encourage mentorship programs and informal professional development.
    • Coached intern on soft skills necessary for professional success.
