UA hosted a special celebration in February for alumni Dr. Gary B. and Pamela S. Williams, who announced a $3 million gift to the Honors College. The transformational gift brings the couple’s cumulative giving to UA to $10 million. Their extraordinary generosity will be recognized with the naming of the Honors College as The Dr. Gary B. and Pamela S. Williams Honors College.

More UA students landed full-time jobs in their chosen fields or continued their education last spring versus the same period in 2014.
The trend should continue because of UA’s expanded emphasis on providing all undergraduate students with “experiential learning” opportunities: Internships, co-ops, clinicals, practicums, student teaching and field experiences.

London-based CEO Magazine ranked UA’s Master of Business Administration program as a top MBA program in North America for the first time. In determining the ranking, the international magazine examined the program’s faculty, tuition, diversity and class size.

Dr. Younjin Min, an assistant professor in the Department of Polymer Engineering, will receive the 2016 Early Career Award from the Polymer Processing Society. The award recognizes productivity of early career researchers in the field of polymer processing as judged from their publications, patents, and service to the PPS.

UA's new Experiential Learning Center for Entrepreneurship & Civic Engagement (or EXL Center) aims to support, expand, and create credit-bearing, experiential-learning programs and opportunities for all UA students. The center also will serve as the link between the University and the business/non-profit partners that surround it to create a sustainable resource for our students, our faculty, our partners, and our wider community.

“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the White House” is the theme for the 2016 John S. Knight Lecture on Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Joining forces for this “no holds barred” look at current events are Carl Bernstein and P.J. O’Rourke — two of the most respected writers in America today.

UA students formed one of the 300 international collegiate teams chosen to answer the challenge issued by Bill Clinton in the regional finals of the annual Hult Prize Competition. Now in its seventh year, the competition is done in partnership with the Clinton Global Initiative.

The University of Akron is home to the best speech and debate program in the state. Members of the team claimed UA’s first state title – among a number of other "unprecedented feats" – at the Ohio Forensic Association’s annual State Championship Tournament, held Feb. 20-21 at Capital University in Columbus.
