Disabilities Awareness Week 2023

October 30th - November 3rd, 2023

All week long, students, faculty, and staff are invited to stop into the Office of Accessibility to drop off donations for ZipAssist’s Campus Cupboard. Those who donate will receive a raffle ticket to be entered to win a prize!

Mindful Movement: Yoga for all Abilities

Monday October 30th from 5:15 - 6:00 p.m. in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center Studio A

  • In partnership with the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, the Office of Accessibility invites students to participate in mindful movement, as a part of the SRWC’s existing group exercise class, Gentle Restoration Yoga. This event is intended to encourage students to take a moment to care for both their physical and mental wellbeing. Modifications can be offered in this yoga class based on participant need. The first 10 students to RSVP will receive a FREE UA branded yoga mat and water bottle.

Inclusive Harvest: Pumpkin Art & Disability Trivia 

Tuesday October 31st from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Student Union Piano Lounge

  • The campus community is invited to test their knowledge by engaging in disability-related trivia at this event. The Office of Accessibility will have mini pumpkins available for participants to decorate while they try to answer different trivia questions.

 

Annie’s Kindness Blankets

Wednesday November 1st from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Student Union International Lounge

  • We invite students, faculty, and staff to stop by the International Lounge in the Student Union to help make blankets for Annie’s Kindness Blankets, an organization that seeks to educate others about depression and suicide prevention. The completed blankets are sent to those in need.

 

Coffee Connection – Day 1 of 2

Wednesday, November 1st from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Student Union room 323

  • Faculty members are invited to stop in to SU 323 to get a cup of coffee, dessert, and chat with a staff member from the Office of Accessibility. We will be available to answer your questions, introduce you to the Instructor Portal, and provide resources for working with students with disabilities. All faculty members that visit the event will receive a raffle ticket to be entered to win a prize!
  • This event is being offered on both Wednesday and Thursday to include as many faculty members as possible.

 

Access4All Bracelet Making

Thursday, November 2nd from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Student Union Piano Lounge

  • As a part of Disabilities Awareness Week 2023, the Office of Accessibility has created bracelet kits for students, faculty, and staff to make and wear around campus. We hope that the bracelets will help you start meaningful conversations with your peers, faculty, and staff about how we can create a more inclusive campus.

Therapy Dogs

Friday, November 3rd from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in Bierce Library

  • Therapy dogs from WAGTime Therapy Dogs and K9 Caring Angels will be joining us on campus on the Friday of Disabilities Awareness week in Bierce Library. Join us to de-stress, relax, and pet therapy dogs during this event.

 

Disabilities Awareness Week is hosted by the Office of Accessibility in partnership with: Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, Counseling and Testing Center, WAGTime Therapy Dogs, K9 Caring Angels, University Libraries, Student Recreation and Wellness Center, Student Union, Annie’s Kindness Blankets, and ZipAssist.
