Project 2380 Student Film Group Is Best in Ohio

11/30/2007

Akron, Ohio, Nov. 28, 2007 The University of Akron's 2380 Project student film group has been named Ohio's Distinguished Student Organization for 2007 by the Ohio Communication Association.

The 2380 Project, founded three years ago, gives UA students the opportunity to create films; it has completed two and is working on a third, Throwing Stones by Nick Smith, the group's president.

The group is named for the 2,380 miles between UA and Hollywood. Since 2004, the 2380 Project has sought to shorten that distance by producing member-created, feature length films, Smith says. The group provides a great opportunity for students and alumni to get experience behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Members can be actors, cameramen, grips, editors, writers, directors and everything in between.

The group's adviser is Dr. N.J. Brown, associate professor of communication.
