Online Video Encoder

In 2019, UA's online video encoder and streaming server were taken offline.

Info for Students

If your instructor sent you here to encode a video, there are a couple of alternatives that you can try.

  • Shorter videos can be uploaded directly to Brightspace. Most HD-quality videos that are 5-minutes or less can be uploaded to Brightspace easily. Longer videos may be accepted as long as they are less than the file limit for uploads in Brightspace.
  • For longer videos, we recommend uploading to Youtube as an unlisted video.Making a video unlisted will allow you to share it with your instructor while keeping the video out of search results.

Info for Faculty

If you are an instructor who has previously used the video encoder, there are a couple of alternatives you can use.

  • You can enable the assignment feature of Panopto. This will allow your students to record videos directly within Brightspace or, upload files they have recorded elsewhere. This service is more secure and more robust than the old Video Encoder.
  • For presentations, you might enable the Video Assignment tool in Brightspace. More information can be found in the UA Teaching Community in Brightspace.
  • Students can be directed to upload their videos to Youtube as unlisted videos. This would allow them to share the link with you or, with the entire class while keeping the video out of search results.
