Professional & Academic Experience

Hashem Dezhbakhsh is a Goodrich C. White Professor of Economics and Chairman of the Economics Department at Emory University. He received a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University and an MA from the University of Akron in economics. He has taught at Emory University, Ohio State University, Purdue University, University of Akron, University of Cape Town, and American University in UAE. He has held various administrative positions in academia including department chair, program director and interim deanship. He has also worked as an economic consultant for private and public sector.

Dezhbakhsh is the recipient of several awards including Emory University’s Williams Distinguished Teaching Award, Cuttino Award for Excellence in Mentorship, and Crystal Apple Award for Excellence in Large Classroom Teaching as well as GAO Chief Economist Award for Research Contributions, and Ohio State University’s Outstanding Teaching Award. Dezhbakhsh's articles have appeared in leading economic journals, and his research has been cited in Newsweek, USA Today, Economist, New York Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Sun-Times, Chronicle of Higher Education, Atlanta Journal Constitution, and Atlanta Business Chronicle among others. He has also appeared as an expert on many radio stations including NPR as well as on CNN, FOX News Channel, and ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX affiliates in Atlanta.
