CONTEST RULES

Eligibility

You are eligible to enter if you are a 2023 high school graduate who has been admitted to The University of Akron (UA) for Fall 2023 or a student transferring to UA and have confirmed your enrollment for Summer 2023 or Fall 2023 and are a U.S. resident. High school students enrolled in CCP classes for the Fall 2023 semester are not eligible for this contest. 

Family members of a Future Zip with the aforementioned eligibility may enter the contest as well. Should a family member of a Future Zip win, the prize will be awarded to their student.

Immediate family members (a parent, spouse, sibling, child, step-sibling, step-child, and in-laws, regardless of where they reside) and/or those living in the same household of any UA employee, whether or not related, are not eligible to receive a prize.

Entry Period

The official entry period is from April 1, 2023, until 11:59 p.m. EDT Monday, May 1, 2023.

How to Enter

To submit an entry:

• UA Your Way – express your creativity and announce your commitment to The University of Akron on your Instagram or Facebook account. Accepted announcements may be posted on your feed or story and may include, but are not limited to, a video, photo, poem, drawing, etc.
• Tag @uakronadmissions
• Use the hashtag - #OfficialZip2023

Winner Selection

One (1) potential winner will be selected at random on Wednesday each week to win that week's prize. Weekly winners are not eligible to receive another weekly prize; however, they are eligible for the other five grand prizes.

Five (5) potential grand-prize winners will be selected at random from all eligible entries received during the entry period by a UA student and employee panel. This selection will be conducted on or about May 5, 2023. The potential winner will be contacted by direct message on Instagram or Facebook on or about two (2) business days after the selection to verify eligibility. To confirm entrant as winner, entrant must confirm enrollment at UA by May 1, 2023.

Winners of weekly prizes may pick their prize up from the Office of Admissions during the first week of classes in the Fall 2023 semester. The grand-prize winner will have their $2,000 housing scholarship (UA Now scholarship for transfer students) automatically awarded to their financial aid offer – no further action will be required. In the event the grand-prize winner chooses not to live on campus, the one-time scholarship will be applied toward tuition.

Prize/Odds

Subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Official Contest Rules, one (1) selected grand-prize entrant will win a non-renewable UA housing scholarship for the 2023-2024 school year, worth $2,000. If the selected grand-prize entrant is a transfer student they will win a non-renewable UA Now scholarship for the 2023-2024 school year, worth $2,000. The winner is not eligible for a cash payout or a refund. If the winner does not complete either semester, any refund for the tuition will be returned to The University of Akron. One (1) selected grand-prize entrant will win a non-renewable Buchtel College of Arts and Science scholarship worth $1,000. One (1) selected grand-prize entrant will win a non-renewable College of Health and Human Sciences scholarship worth $1,000. One (1) selected grand-prize entrant will win a College of Business Gift Basket. One (1) selected grand-prize entrant will win a College of Engineering and Polymer Science Gift Basket. Four (4) weekly selected winners will win and be awarded one of the following: (a) One (1) UA Gift Basket; (b) One (1) UA Gift Basket; (c) One (1) UA Gift Basket; (d) One (1) UA Sweatshirt. All taxes on the prizes are the sole responsibility of winner. Your odds of winning depends on the number of contest entrants. To claim prize(s), winner(s) must confirm enrollment at UA by May 1, 2023.

This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram or Facebook. By participating in this challenge, entrants agree to abide by and be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the University Officials, which are final in all matters relating to this contest, and the laws of the State of Ohio. A prize won by an eligible minor will be awarded to a parent or legal guardian. By entering, you authorize UA, in its sole discretion, to share your entry on its social media pages (Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook), and official website. Entries may not contain any image or depiction of the following: (i) materials which include or constitute trademarks, trade names or copyrighted works created or owned by any person or entity other than entrant or for which the entrant has obtained owner’s written permission to use; (ii) materials bearing profanities, or bearing the name or likeness of any celebrity, living or dead; (iii) materials which contain visible identifiable or potentially identifiable information, including but not limited to, phone numbers, website links, street addresses, email addresses or license plate numbers; (iv) inappropriate behavior for a general audience; (v) any depiction of real or simulated sexual acts; (vi) violence in any form; (vii) materials which violate anyone’s reasonable privacy expectations, violate any known agreement, or which are defamatory in nature; (viii) materials which are derogatory to UA, or any affiliated entity or person; (ix) materials which are discriminatory based on race, religion, national origin, physical disability, age, sex, or sexual orientation or preference; (x) materials in which any person identifiably appears unless entrant has obtained an appropriate written release from such person granting all rights required herein; and, (xi) materials which do not comply with all other requirements in these Official Rules. Reviews that do not conform to these guidelines will be deleted and no entry will be generated. UA reserves the right to reject or disqualify any review which UA, at its sole discretion, determines to be inconsistent with the letter or spirit of the Official Rules or potentially damaging to its, the Contest’s, or another’s image or reputation. Once submitted, a review cannot be deleted, canceled or modified. Potential winners may be required to show proof of being the authorized Instagram account holder. By participating in this drawing and/or accepting prize, all entrants and winners agree to release and hold harmless The University of Akron, its Board of Trustees, directors, officers, employees and agents, including without limitation its advertising and promotion agencies, from any and all claim, loss, damage or expense incurred with respect to the use of the submission, award, receipt, possession, use or misuse of any prize and/or participation in the challenge. By submitting the entry, I am representing that I have the rights to the submission and have the legal right to transfer those rights to the University. By submitting an entry, I give the University its assigns, licensees, and legal representatives, the irrevocable right to use the submitted entry, and/or picture, portrait, photograph, likeness and statements made in the entry for any commercial or marketing purposes without additional compensation, royalty free, in perpetuity, and agree to participate in publicity of the contest.
