Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) located within The College of Health and Human Sciences at The University of Akron is an interdisciplinary program providing diverse opportunities in public health throughout northeastern Ohio and beyond. The Master of Public Health degree at The University of Akron is awarded by The University of Akron.

The University of Akron MPH program is partnered with three Ohio public universities through the Consortium of Eastern Ohio Master of Public Health (CEOMPH) program. The three are:

• Cleveland State University (CSU),
• Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), and
• Youngstown State University (YSU).

The MPH program outstandingly benefits from expert faculty at all four institutions. 

This nontraditional program is geared toward working professionals who wish to expand their roles in improving population health, enhancing proficiencies within current careers, or seek career advancement.  Core courses are taught online with a few days of optional virtual learning.

The mission is accomplished through collaboration among its partner universities and agencies.

Admission Requirements

• Online application located at: SOPHAS
• $150 application fee
• Official academic records for each institution of higher education that you have attended. 
• Two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic or professional background. Individuals who have not been involved in an academic institution for two years or more may submit letters of recommendation by supervisors from his/her place of employment. The letters should include an assessment of your current work quality and ability to successfully complete graduate training. Please address letters to the CEOMPH Admissions Committee.
• A personal statement (no more than two pages) explaining your educational history; professional history; area of interest in public health; interest and motivation for seeking a MPH degree; experience in public health or other activities related to public health; and professional or academic career plans upon completion of the program.
• TOEFL scores taken within the last two years from graduates of foreign universities who are non-native English speakers.

Application Deadline

The CEOMPH program offers admission for fall, spring, and summer semesters. The deadlines for the application process are the following:

Domestic student summer admission deadline: April 15 of the same year

Domestic student fall admission deadline: July 15 of the same year

Domestic student spring admission deadline: December 1 of the prior year

Not all departments offer graduate assistantships. Students should inquire with the department directly to determine assistantship availability.
