Our lab is studying the effects of aging on osteoarthritis (OA), the most common degenerative joint disease affecting millions of Americans. Aging and trauma are the most common risk factors related to OA, but the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. We have shown earlier that lysosomal dysfunction promotes OA pathogenesis (Ansari et al, Osteoarthritis Cartilage, 2021 Jan;29(1):100-112), but the mechanism remains unexplored. We are looking for a young and motivated mind to explore the progression and severity of OA in a mouse model of lysosomal dysfunction.
