Department of Geosciences
In the Geosciences Program at The University of Akron, our professors provide many learning opportunities unique to UA students with modern instrumentation for geologic and environmental research.
Our research covers hydrogeology, paleoclimate reconstruction, climate change, sedimentology, geochemistry, geobiology, and geochemistry.
Degrees we offer
Unergrauate: We offer bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees, and students can participate in Honors College programs in coordination with the geology program.
Graduate students: We offer degrees in Geology, Earth Science, and Environmental Science. Each area offers a wide range of research opportunities.
Geology Field Camp
The University of Akron's Geology Field Camp is typically offered each summer in South Dakota & Wyoming. The five-week camp is broken into two 3-credit parts. Field Camp II is not offered every year, therefore, if you are interested, please contact Field Camp faculty.

Dr. Caleb Holyoke, associate professor in the Department of Geosciences, received a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Graduate student Madison Wood and undergraduate students Madison Isaac and Hailey Connor presented their research at the recent national Geological Society of America meeting in Pittsburgh, PA, on Oct. 15-18, 2023.
