
Driving Opportunity Scholars Program
This exclusive program has been made possible through a generous gift from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
Up to five scholarships will be offered in 2025.
The scholarship covers undergraduate tuition and fees for up to five years or a bachelors degree, whichever occurs first. Recipients will receive training, a corporate mentor and an academic mentor to help ensure a successful experience.
Recipients will have the opportunity to interview for an internship or co-op at Goodyear. Recipients may be placed at an out of state Goodyear plant, inclusive of traveling and relocation assistance. Examples of Goodyear plants include:
- Danville, VA
- Texarkana, AR
- Topeka, KS
- Tupelo, MS
- Fayetteville, NC
- Lawton, OK
Eligibility
A (preferred) 3.0 or higher grade point average in high school with other factors considered that impact GPA.
ACT or SAT score optional.
Come from a socioeconomically disadvantaged background.
Be the first generation in one’s family to attend college.
Be a new domestic first-year student.
Accepted to The University of Akron with the intended major of:
- Automated Manufacturing Technology
- Chemistry
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Electrical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering Technology
To apply
- Applicants will be asked to submit an application and an essay describing their interest in the program and complete an interview.
- Deadline to apply is April 1.
