Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program provides graduate-level training in the art and science of professional counseling. The degree leads to professional identity founded on a holistic perspective, knowledge about bio-psycho-social causes of distress, and social/occupational impairments, skills related to human development across the lifespan.

  • Three references using standard Graduate School online reference form or recommendation letters
  • Interview will be required for all applicants who meet admission criteria

Application Deadline

Applications to the master's degree program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling are accepted on a rolling basis. Applicants are strongly urged to apply as early as possible (by December for Fall admission, by August for Spring admission). Admission interviews usually begin in January for the Fall admission cohort, and September for the Spring admission cohort. New admits will not be accepted once the program reaches cohort capacity.

It is expected that graduates from the Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program will have gained: (1) a professional identity founded on human growth/wellness from a holistic perspective, (2) knowledge about bio-psycho-social causes of client distress and social/occupational impairments, (3) skills related to the enhancement of human development across the lifespan, and (4) confidence/competence related to improving one’s community through individual, group, and societal advocacy and outreach.

Assistantship/Scholarship Information

The School of Counseling does not offer master's-level graduate assistantships. Students are encouraged to review the student employment website for additional opportunities.
