About the Exhibits

Why Akron? Reflecting on 60 Years of AHAP

The first psychology laboratory in the United States was founded in Baltimore. The first psychological clinic was created in Philadelphia. So how did Akron become home to the world’s largest archive of psychology? Why Akron? seeks to answer this question, exploring how Ohio’s Rubber City became an international hub for the history of psychology.

Why Akron? has been researched, written, and installed by students in The University of Akron’s Museums & Archives Certificate Program in collaboration with staff from the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology. Additional assistance has been provided by student assistants Joseph Kaltenthaler, Christian Lewis, and Lacy Nicholas.

The Collector by Logan Wood

Collecting is a universal practice that varies greatly from person to person. In The Collector, Logan Wood explores his own obsession with horror media, hunting culture, hand crafting, and picking apart his own psyche. Wood’s work reflects value in things that do not conform to typical societal norms.

Locked Windows by Sarah Leemaster

Sarah Leemaster’s Locked Windows visually reflects the complex emotional landscape resulting from displacement and changing concepts of home. Using abstract forms and color, Leemaster explores the fragility and impermanence of home, capturing the difference between connection and fragmentation.

Silver Fox by Micah Anderson

Micah Anderson welcomes all to view the early developments of his original series, Silver Fox. Inside is a collection of paintings and drawings depicting events, characters, and locations brought to life with strong color theory and complex cross hatching. It is a world of action, danger, and beauty influenced by mythology and religion.
