Wow! What a year we've had in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Help us count down our favorite memories and points of pride from 2023. A big thank you to our faculty, students and community partners for making this year the best ever.

#12 - The CHHS Dean's Team is made up of 35 outstanding scholars from all seven academic schools in the college. These students interact with our prospective students at visit days, provide tours to guests, and serve as advisors to the Dean.

We simply couldn't do it without your help!

#11- in our CHHS Year in Review is Discovering CHHS - a brand new kind of event offered to our current students across all majors at UA. This collaborative program highlighted all things health and human science -related: from minors and certificates to student clubs to internships and career opportunities, and more! And the best part was all of the goodies and giveaways!

Mark your calendar for our 2024 Discover CHHS: February 13 from 11 - 1 in the Jean Hower Taber Student Union ballroom.

#10 - CHHS has over 10 special academic clubs and honors societies, but UA has over 340 clubs to choose from! These student leaders connect and grow alongside like-minded peers, making unforgettable memories while honing essential skills for a brighter future.

#9 - in our top 12 countdown is the incredible support we receive from donors and partners through gifts and grants. Our generous donors support investment in scholarships, equipment and student support, while faculty earn competitive grant funding to complete services and conduct research to drive their scholarship forward.


In 2023, gifts and grants for CHHS totaled over $4.1 million!! Congratulations!

#8 - in our CHHS Year in Review series is all of the wonderful visit days we've had with our prospective students. In partnership with the Office of Admissions, we regularly welcome high school students to learn about our academic majors, tour labs and facilities, and meet our expert faculty.


Exploring CHHS is a signature event held just for the CHHS where we invite 300 students to explore all of the career paths available in the health and human sciences sectors.

#7 - is a big pride point for CHHS in 2023: Our academic programs realized a 10% increase in enrollment for the fall 2023 class!

This is a testament to our dedicated faculty who provide the highest quality educational experience for our students and our community partners who curate the best field placements, clinical, and internships to launch our grads into the careers of their dreams.

#6 - There's nothing quite like watching a proud family cheer on their student as they walk across the commencement stage. Our CHHS pride grows as each of our Zips moves from the classroom out into the world working as helpers, healers, and justice seekers. This year we watched over 700 students from our college complete their degrees. Congratulations!

#5 - in our CHHS Year in Review series highlights the amazing community service performed by our students and staff! Our students provide an incredible 350,000 hours of service to the community every semester! Way to go!

#4 - in our 2023 Year in Review is the incredible faculty service and scholarship we have in CHHS. Our faculty experts are recognized around the world for their contributions to the field. Thank you for your scholarship, publications, conference presentations, commentary to the media, collaborative grant writing, professional mentoring and so much more.

#3 - Did you know that a group of kangaroos is called a "mob?" That's what our Zips faculty and students look like when we attend professional conferences - you'll see us presenting research and posters, attending talks, accepting scholarships and making professional contacts for internships and job openings.

#2 - The world of health and human sciences is always evolving, and so our menu of academic offerings must also innovate and update based on the needs of our community and employers. 2023 was a great year for innovative degree offerings. Here's just a few of our exciting developments:

  • Tuition discount for Akron Public School employees studying School Counseling
  • New Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in fall 2023
  • Recently announced 3 + 3 Bachelor of Science Health Care Administration and Juris Doctorate program
  • New Sports Medicine minor
  • Partnership with the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Board to place UA social work majors in support agencies across Summit County
  • New articulation agreements with several career technical education programs for faster degree completion
  • Partnerships with local health care systems to offer fast tracks to BSN degrees
