“When I was 6 months old, my grandfather died,” says Myers School of Art graduating senior Amber Bistor. “I never had a chance to know him, to grow up knowing that he could be proud of what and who that person is today. Just what my family tells me about him and how they know him. And thus, this project of memory really began.”

Bistor’s senior exhibition, Never Known, is about looking back and seeing nothing of your own memories, just the sights and stories of others. “Most everybody pictured here in family photos, I have no knowledge of and no recognition of,” says Bistor. The exhibit is comprised of old photographs and Polaroid images grouped together into several frames, along with enlarged Polaroid images. The photographs are designed to be viewed as though they were arranged on a kitchen table in piles, telling stories and sharing memories.
