Why the CoB?
I chose UA's College of Business because of its national rankings and its dual accreditation from the AACSB. The faculty and staff hold themselves, as well as their students, to high standards, creating a structured, motivating, and successful learning environment. As I began to take my first steps into the College of Business, I realized the amazing networking opportunities that are provided through the classroom and student organizations, as well as the emphasis on professional development that has already started to give me an advantage going forward in the workplace.

Why Did You Choose Your Major?

Major: Accelerated BS/MTax program in Accounting
Projected Graduation Date: Spring 2024

Professional/Student Organizations:
Accounting Association – Vice President of Finance; Institute of Management Accountants – Vice President of Finance; Beta Alpha Psi -

Why the CoB?
I chose the College of Business because of its reputation and because of its proximity to my home. When I was conducting my college search, I was looking for a university that had a good reputation and a wide variety of majors/minors, if I decide to get a minor. The College of Business not only offers a variety of majors/minors to students, but it also is one of the best business schools in Ohio and in the nation, so I decided to make the College of Business my home. Additionally, its proximity to my home allows me to commute to school, which makes attending classes even easier.

Why Did You Choose Your Major?
I chose Accounting as my major because I've had an interest in the field for many years. I have family members who were accountants (which I always enjoyed learning what it was like) and I took a course in high school that officially introduced me to the field (which I found rather easy and enjoyable). These two experiences combined solidified my interest in accounting, which led to my decision to pursue Accounting as my major once I became a Zip.

Favorite part of UA:
My favorite part of the University of Akron would probably have to be its community. It's large enough that there's a wide variety of people that you're able to meet but small enough that you don't feel like just another cog in the machine. Furthermore, in my opinion, the smaller class sizes help to make the lessons a bit more personalized, and it also makes it easier to get help from professors (who, in my experience, have all been very willing to help students when they can).

As an international student from Brazil, it was important to choose a college where I would feel welcomed.

Why Did You Choose Your Major?
I decided my major as a freshman when taking general education courses. I was exposed to different areas and realized the ones I had more interest in. With the support of my professors and academic advisor, I decided to major in Business Data Analytics. This major is in great demand both in the US and Brazil, so I have a larger pool of opportunities ahead of me.

Professional/Student Organizations:
Beta Gamma Sigma; Speech & Debate; Economics & Data Analytics Club; Knack tutoring; Akron Civic Theatre

Why the CoB?
I knew a Business degree was the most applicable to the work I wanted to pursue. That, combined with Akron's reputation as an engineering and business school and the College of Business being AACSB accredited made my decision very easy.

Why Did You Choose Your Major?
I didn't know what I wanted to study initially, but after taking some required courses I discovered I really enjoyed learning about economics (and marketing tactics of “you'd be really good at this” pulled me in a bit). I specifically chose Business Data Analytics, because it sounded more well-rounded for multiple areas of business than the Economics major. Since I'm still solidifying what I want to work in, the flexibility this major offers appealed to me.

Favorite part of UA:
I love the University of Akron's connection with the community/local businesses and small school feel. It brings me joy seeing familiar faces in the hallway to say 'hello' to! Additionally, all staff I've interacted with have approachable, friendly, and supportive beyond belief.

After touring the university, I was impressed by its attractive campus, and I decided to research it further. I soon realized how impressive the College of Business was. From its outstanding academic rankings to its corporate partnerships, career fairs, and extensive career services, I saw how dedicated they are to helping their students succeed. This focus on student success was a big factor in me choosing the University of Akron.

Why Did You Choose Your Major?
When I first came to the University of Akron, l was undecided about my major. After taking a class on spreadsheet modeling and seeing the capabilities of Excel, I became fascinated by the power of data and its impact on the decision-making world. Truthfully, I wasn't even fully aware of what the supply chain was when I first got to college, but after being exposed to it, I was sold on it as my major. In today's globalized world, getting a product from point A to point B can be quite a challenge, and it's one I have found very interesting to try to solve.

Favorite part of UA:
Where do I start?! There are so many things to like about this university but if I had to pick a favorite, I would say it's the strong sense of community. I've always felt that as though we were one big family. From the different clubs to athletic events, there's always something going on to bring us together.

Why the CoB?
When it comes down to preparing you for the future, the College of Business has you covered. I chose UA's College of Business program because of the support it provides to students looking to find a career in business after college. Inside the College of Business, I've found many opportunities to grow my experience in business through the various internships and other professional courses that the College offers.

Why Did You Choose Your Major?
For me, Sales and Marketing just felt like the perfect job for my personality and character. In high school, I was involved in a program called “DECA” which was a marketing and business-based program that allowed me to learn more about the basics of marketing and business. Through this program, I got to compete in an annual competition that helped me understand how marketing and sales worked together through the various roleplays and other experiences I had in the competition. Eventually, this program would spark my interest in studying sales and marketing which would then lead me to joining the sales and marketing program at the University of Akron.

Favorite part of UA:
One of my favorite parts about the University of Akron has to be the community. UA has many different events and organizations on campus that easily allow for commuter and non-commuter students to find stuff to do outside of class. Inside the College of Business, I've found that the community is very welcoming, and it's easy to make connections with the different students and faculty.
