CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION

REQUIREMENTS 

This certificate program is intended for individuals who wish to enhance their knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational, community, and industrial fields. This certificate is independent of a degree and is designed for individuals in one of the following categories:

  1. Psychology majors who want to concentrate on diversity, equity, and inclusion, including social justice.
  2. Non-psychology majors who want an introduction to the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  3. Professionals employed in the field who would like to gain expertise in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

ADMISSION 

To participate in the program, a student must: 

  • Have already taken Psychology 100 for psychology majors or equivalent for non-psychology majors before being approved for the certificate.
  • Complete an Add/Change/Remove Program of Study in Workday and submit it to the University Registrar via Workday. 

CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION

Minimum Hours: 15 Credits

Core Requirements - 4 credits: 

PSYC 250 Psychology of Diversity - 4 credits 

Electives - 8 credits (Choose 2) 

PSYC 424 Myths of Sexuality - 4 credits 
PSYC 435 Cross-Cultural Psychology - 4 credits 
PSYC 474 Psychology of Women - 4 credits 
PSYC 475 Psychology of Adulthood & Aging - 4 credits 
PSYC 480 Special Topics in Psychology - 4 credits 

Final Year Certificate Requirements - 3 credits (Choose 1) 

PSYC 495 Field Experience in Psychology
PSYC 497 Independent Reading & Research

In the students' final year of their DEI certificate requirements, we would like them to (1) seek out a faculty member who is conducting research in the area of DEI (3 credits of PSYC 497), or alternatively, (2) a university or community field placement that is DEI focused for a minimum of 3 credits (PSYC 495). Please note that these experiences will be individually evaluated by the Department of Psychology's DEI Taskforce of the certificate either in a research endeavor or applied placement. If a student chooses to do both, only one will count towards the certificate requirements.
