High Temperature Laboratory

1. Lab Description and Capabilities

  • Industrial scale facility for testing high temperature performance of material, heat treatment, and synthesis of materials
  • Provides the capability to expose a wide range of materials in various environments (i.e., various oxygen partial pressures, water vapor etc.) at high temperature of up to 1600°C and to study/test the resultant properties

2. Deliverables

  • Research on high pressure oxidation of materials
  • Understand influence of temperature on structure of metal
  • Large furnace allow testing a piece of material as large as 18” x 18” x 18”
  • Development of advanced materials and processing technologies
  • Continuous measurement of oxidation kinetics as well as change in metal structure
  • Casting of various alloys and composites
  • Heat treatments of materials in wide range of atmospheres and temperatures
