Construction Estimating

Construction Estimating

This course provides a solid foundation for understanding the concepts of estimating quantities for construction projects. The development of an accurate quantity takeoff contributes significantly to estimation costs, project success, and client satisfaction. An accurate cost estimate can help to empower construction professionals and project owners to make informed decisions and efficiently manage projects.

Course Rationale

This course is intended to prepare students to evaluate project costs with precision. By analyzing materials, labor and other resources, the estimator can create a detailed cost projection that will guide decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Learning Objectives

  • Accurately estimate material quantities from a set of blueprints.
  • Analyze materials, labor, productivity rates and other resources for the preparation of detailed project cost estimates.
  • Understand the requirements around bidding and the estimate-related matters for winning bids.
  • Apply quantitative techniques to estimate quantities of materials, labor, and resources.
  • Learn to use software tools for estimating construction project costs.
  • Break down a construction project into manageable building components using the WBS methodology.
