College of Nursing, UA employees honored

From left, Dr. Julie Yuhua Zhao, director of the IDEAs program (Increasing Diversity in Engineering Academics) in the College of Engineering, Fedearia Nicholson, director of the Office of Multicultural Development, and Denine Rocco, associate vice president and dean of students, received Women of Professional Excellence Recognition awards from Women's Network Inc. on Thursday. With them is College of Nursing Dean Margaret Wineman, who accepted the Dorothy O. Jackson Award on behalf of the College.


UA’s College of Nursing and three UA employees were honored by Women’s Network Inc. at a gala luncheon June 17 at Portage Country Club.

The College received of the Dorothy O. Jackson Award, presented annually to a local business or organization that demonstrates excellence and leadership in empowering women and promoting diversity. The college was singled out for its record at recruiting and graduating students of color. Dean Margaret Wineman accepted the award on behalf of the college.

The three UA women who received Women of Professional Excellence Recognition awards were:

  • Denine Rocco, associate vice president and dean of students.
  • Fedearia Nicholson, director of the Office of Multicultural Development.
  • Dr. Julie Yuhua Zhao, director of the IDEAs program (Increasing Diversity in Engineering Academics) in the College of Engineering.

Dr. Theresa S. Beyerle, associate director of the Institute for Teaching and Learning, serves as a board member of the Women’s Network.
