Our Mission

The University of Akron’s Department of Developmental Programs seeks to apply and advance the theory and practiceof developmental education to create an environment that promotes student success, faculty growth as developmental educators, active membership in the university community.

The Donald Taylor Scholarship

The Department of Developmental Programs chooses students for the Outstanding Student Award Ceremony which takes place yearly. These awards are given to students with outstanding academic achievement, exemplary attendance, and exceptional participation and contributions to the classroom learning environment. This fund was established in memory of Mr. Donald Taylor, College Lecturer Emeritus. Mr. Taylor was a beloved colleague, instructor and tutor in the department until his passing in 2014.
