More about club sports

Below are some frequently asked questions regarding club sports.

Club sports are funded through Student Recreation and Wellness Services, with the help of the Club Sports staff. The clubs have the opportunity to apply for allocated money to help run their clubs. However, most of the money comes through fundraising and member dues.

The best way to find out about each club is to check out our current sports, which provides a list of all registered clubs as well as an e-mail to contact the club.

  • Recreational – just for enjoyment
  • Instructional – teach a skill
  • Competitive – extramural opportunity to compete

It is up to the individual club, but club sports are usually open to anyone who is a registered student at The University of Akron.

To become a member of a club, contact the club to find out if it has tryouts or any other new member training.

Each club has its own set dues that each member pays. A majority of the club is run through self-generated funds, so individual members must pay dues as well as help with fundraising events.
