How we’re making it easier to become a graduate student at UA

June 2020

Business applicants

  • Applicants may petition to waive the standardized test requirement.
  • Application fees are temporarily being waived for College of Business Administration applicants for fall 2020.

Engineering applicants

  • Letters of recommendation or resumes not required.
  • GRE requirement for fall 2020 is waived for UA students only.
  • Application fees waived for UA graduating seniors and alumni for summer and fall 2020.

Polymer Science/Polymer Engineering applicants

  • GRE is waived for domestic students only.

English language proficiency

  • We have approved the use of the Duolingo English Test (DET) for demonstration of English proficiency since many testing centers have closed because of the pandemic.  The DET will be accepted in place of the in-person TOEFL and IELTS through Aug. 24, 2020. 
    Applicants will need to receive a DET score of 115 or higher to satisfy our proficiency requirement for graduate admissions. 

Dates and deadlines

  • May 18 - 3wk Intersession and 8wk 1 classes begin
  • May 25 - Memorial Day observance (University closed)
  • June 8 - 5wk 1 and 8wk 2 classes begin
  • July 1 - Summer 2020 graduation application due
  • July 3 - Independence Day observance (University closed)
  • July 13 - 5wk 2 classes begin
  • Aug. 14 (5:00 pm) - Final thesis/dissertation deadline
