About admission

For first-time students to UA

For first-time students to UA, please complete the admissions application to The University. You will be considered automatically for admission to the Honors College.

Applicants who meet the following criteria will be offered admission to the Honors College.

  • A minimum ACT of 25 w/22 Math & 20 English, or a minimum SAT 1,130 w/510 Math & 470 CR (old score)/1,200 w/540 Math & 530 CR (new score), and a minimum high school GPA of 3.75;
    ** OR **
  • A minimum ACT of 27 w/22 Math & 20 English, or a minimum SAT of 1,210 w/510 Math & 470 CR (old score)/1,280 w/540 Math & 530 CR (new score), and a minimum high school GPA of 3.50

The University of Akron

For transfer students

A 3.60 or above cumulative grade-point average at the college level is required, with a minimum of 15 college credits earned. If you have fewer than 15 college credits, your ACT and SAT scores will be taken into consideration. Otherwise, no ACT or SAT scores are required. Please apply to UA if not already a student. 

Transfer students have a final deadline for submission of admission applications of August 15 (if applying for admission for Fall 2016; January 15, if applying for admission for Spring 2017). The maximum Honors scholarship award for a transfer student is $1,000 per year.

For UA continuing students

Current UA students with a minimum GPA of at least 3.6 and under 64 credit hours completed, contact the Honors College at 330-972-7966 to make an appointment.

Continuing students have a final deadline for submission of applications of August 15 (if applying for admission for Fall 2016).

Other opportunities that require separate application

Honors Complex Leadership Community

Honors students with extensive leadership experience may wish to apply for the Honors Complex Emerging Leaders Community. 

This is a residential community of students with leadership background, independent of college major, who are housed near each other on the fifth floor of the Honors Complex.

Special Honors Academy for College Credit Plus Students

The Honors Academy for College Credit Plus Students welcomes applications from all self-challenging, highly motivated, and high achieving high school students who have demonstrated their abilities to excel.

About scholarships

Honors scholarship opportunities

The University of AkronThe Williams Honors College awards renewable Honors scholarships based on an applicant's academic qualifications. The awards may be renewed and typically range from $500 for most students up to $1,000 per year for some students. No separate application is required.

Exceptionally high-achieving applicants will be invited to complete a special Honors scholarship application and will receive an invitation to be interviewed for the endowed Honors Housing Scholarships supported by the Herman Muehlstein Fund for Scholastic Aid ($2,000 for two years) and the Lisle M. Buckingham/Owen O. and Della M. Orr Honors Scholarships, as well as other endowed Honors scholarships.
