About the Office
The Ohio Attorney General is the chief legal officer for all state of Ohio institutions of higher education. Subject to the authority of the Ohio Attorney General, the Vice President and General Counsel serves as the chief legal advisor to the Board of Trustees, to the President, and to University of Akron officers and administrators. The office is responsible to the Board of Trustees and to the President for the direction and supervision of all legal matters of The University of Akron.
Duties of the Office of General Counsel
- Provide legal counsel, preventative legal guidance and advice, and services in all matters pertaining to the practice of law on behalf of The University of Akron;
- Serve as liaison with the Office of the Ohio Inspector General;
- Provide Industrial Security Supervision when necessary;
- Assist in the preparation and review of agendas for Board meetings; and
- Perform special functions as requested by the Board of Trustees.
Duties of the Vice President and General Counsel
- Serve on the President's Cabinet;
- Serve as Secretary of the Board of Trustees and perform those functions and duties prescribed for the Secretary in the Bylaws of the Board; and
- Provide legal counsel, preventative legal guidance and advice, and services in all matters pertaining to the practice of law on behalf of The University of Akron, in his role as chief legal advisor to the Board of Trustees, to the President, and to University of Akron officers and administrators.
