On the Table Greater Akron

On October 3, 2017, a total of 80 students in the School of Social Work joined other community members in Akron and Summit County at the Polsky Building to participate in On the Table Greater Akron, sponsored by The Akron Community Foundation.

On the Table Greater Akron is a first-of-its-kind initiative that brought together more than 6,000 diverse residents from all walks of life to share a meal and discuss meaningful ideas at locations across our community. The goal of the initiative was to provide an opportunity to discuss ideas on how to shape our region into a strong, vibrant, safe, and dynamic place to live and work.

Social work students participated in discussion groups with 8 to 12 members each and shared their ideas as UA students and future social workers.

The Akron Community Foundation hopes that these community-wide conversations will generate new ideas, bold solutions, and opportunities for investment. Once all of the reports and surveys are collected, the foundation will share a community report highlighting the ideas, conversations, themes, and outcomes that emerge from On the Table Greater Akron.
