To park overnight in University parking lots, commuter students must obtain an endorsement sticker for their parking permits. This sticker is available in the Parking Office at a price of $40 per semester. Commuters Students parking Overnight are limited to the following lots: the East Campus Parking Deck (Lot 1), the South Campus Parking Deck (Lot 36), Level 2 (only) of the Polsky Parking Deck (Lot 49), the Central Hower lot (Lot 24), the Kappa Kappa Gamma lot (Lot 7), and the Martin University Ctr. Parking lot (Lot 52). Enforcement occurs between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. daily. Resident student parking is unaffected by this change.
Visitors may also park overnight in the above lots with daily overnight parking permits.
|Q:||What is the reason for this policy?|
|A:||A significant and growing number of students are living close to the campus and parking in University lots for extended periods of time. This increases operating and maintenance costs, and reduces capacity in areas of high demand. This new policy allows these costs to be covered, and relocates vehicles requiring long-term parking to locations that can accommodate it. This will result in more convenience for most commuters.|
|Q:||How does this affect resident students?|
|A:||It does not affect them. Students with resident "R" permits will be permitted to park overnight in resident lots without the need for an endorsement sticker. Resident permits are valid overnight in the following lots: Lot 9, the ramp between level 3 & 4 and levels 4 & 5 of Lot 26, Lot 29, Lot 36, Lot 44, Lot 46 and Lot 70.|
|Q:||Why enforce this only between 2 and 5 a.m.?|
|A:||This time period was chosen in order to minimize the impact of the policy on students who do not regularly park on campus overnight. This is in line with the the practices of other Universities that restrict overnight parking.|
|Q:||How do I display my permit with this sticker?|
|A:||On the front of every permit is a box for endorsement stickers. Simply peel off the backing from the sticker and affix it to the permit in that location. Hang the permit from your mirror with this side facing out, or place it on your dashboard with this side facing up. Note: the sticker is tamper-resistant and will self-destruct if it is removed from the permit. Once it is in place DO NOT remove it.|
|Q:||I only need to park overnight for one day. How can I legally do this?|
|A:||Daily overnight permits are available in the Parking Office for $6 each.|
