February Ohio bar exam results were released this morning by the Supreme Court of Ohio, and graduates at The University of Akron’s School of Law (Akron Law) performed well.

Akron Law’s pass rate of 81% (25 of 31) for first-time takers and its overall pass rate of 69% (37 of 54) for all bar exam takers were both second-best in the state and the best among the public universities. These results were also notable given the large cohort of Akron Law graduates who took the February exam: the 31 first-time takers far exceeded the second-highest Ohio law school (with 19 takers), and Akron’s overall number of takers (54) was just below the school with the highest number of takers (58).

“I want to recognize the hard work of all of our graduates who prepared for the February bar exam,” said Akron Law Dean Christopher J. (C.J.) Peters. “And I want to heartily congratulate those 37 graduates who passed the bar this time.

“I also want to thank our terrific Academic Success professionals for their above-and-beyond efforts to help our December grads prepare for the February exam and for their ongoing work in helping our students and graduates succeed. Many thanks also to the faculty who volunteered time to work with our February test takers.

“As pleased as we are with these results, we have expanded our support,” Peters continued. “To further assist our students in their academic success and passage of the bar exam, we began partnering with bar review leader BARBRI in January 2019. The program provides students with additional comprehensive and tailored support services beginning before their first class and continuing throughout their time at Akron Law and until they pass the bar exam. All the advantages of the BARBRI program are included in our under-$25,000 tuition.

“Our goal is for every one of our graduates to pass the bar on their first try and embark on a successful career in their chosen field,” Peters stated. “We believe the BARBRI partnership will help us come closer to consistently achieving that goal.”
