Biography

Philip Kaufmann received his bachelor of arts degree from Loyola University and Juris Doctor from The University of Akron School of Law in 1971. 

Mr. Kaufmann is a partner and group chair in Stark & Knoll LPA’s Estate Planning & Probate Group.
Prior to joining Stark & Knoll, he was the managing partner of Kaufmann & Kaufmann, which was founded in 1935 by his father, the late Frank P. Kaufmann (AL’31).  He is past Foundation President of the Probate Section of the Akron Bar Association and is the recipient of the Sir Thomas More Award from the Akron Bar Association and Catholic Diocese.  He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Inside Business Leading Lawyer for his work in the areas of Trusts and Estates; and also by Ohio Super Lawyers in the areas of Estate Planning and Probate.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Council.

Mr. Kaufmann serves on the Board of Trustees for the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Foundation, the Center for Non-Profit Excellence, the Community Fund Management Foundation in Cleveland, Summa Foundation, and Village at St. Edward where he is also Chairman of their Foundation.  He is past member of the Board of Overseers for Blossom Music Center;  past secretary and treasurer for North Coast Community Homes;  and past chairman of the Ohio Association of County Board of MRDD.

Mr. Kaufmann is a former member of The University of Akron Board of Trustees, where he also served as chair.  He is a former member of the University of Akron Foundation Board of Directors and member of its Executive Committee, and former member of the National Alumni Board of Directors.  He received the Outstanding Law Alumni Award from the University in 2008 and was bestowed an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree by the University in 2010.
