Q&A with Justin Miller
Major: Media Studies
Year: Junior

What has your Akron experience been like?
My experience here has been nothing short of incredible. In just under three years here, I have already had some of my lifelong dreams come true! I host my own morning radio show, I’ve interviewed athletes and celebrities, and now I’ve starred in a commercial! Not to mention all of the amazing people I’ve met and worked with along the way.
Have you been involved in any extracurricular activities?
Aside from being a personality on WZIP, I am a proud brother of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and a member of UA’s roller hockey team. I stay very busy outside the classroom. The University of Akron has countless clubs and organizations for students to get involved in!
What are some of your favorite things to do on and around campus?
My favorite spot on campus is Coleman Common. It’s the perfect spot to relax and hang out with friends in between classes and, when the flowers and trees start to blossom, it’s a gorgeous view. One of my favorite places in Akron is Diamond Deli downtown. By far they serve the best sandwiches I’ve ever tasted! Additionally, when the weather is nice, I enjoy heading down to Lock 3 to work on my studies, or to simply enjoy the sights and sounds of the city.
What does UA offer that you can’t find anywhere else?
WZIP and ZTV. UA has the best and most listened to college radio station in the entire country. Yes, a lot of schools have radio stations, but WZIP is in a class of its own. Being an FM station, it reaches the majority of Northeast Ohio and can be streamed from virtually anywhere in the world! Being a student run organization, I have gained ample experience for my future career. The opportunities WZIP has for its students can’t be beat. ZTV has won many Emmy Awards and also has so many amazing opportunities for their members!
What are your post-graduation plans and goals?
I plan to start my career in commercial radio, but don’t plan on stopping there. I want to be a voice actor and create my own cartoon. Furthermore, I want to be a sketch comic and work for shows, especially Saturday Night Live. Lastly, my ultimate goal is to be the host of the Tonight Show, something I feel that I am ready to take on right now!
What advice would you give to prospective and incoming students?
The best advice I can give to future University of Akron students is to simply get involved. Don’t just go to class and sit in your dorm room. By joining clubs, checking out events, going to sports games, you’ll figure out what you really love to do and find others who are on the same mission you are. The friends I’ve met here are friends that’ll last a lifetime! Take advantage of everything the college experience has to offer and you won’t have any regrets!
