Dr. Walter L. Hixson’s most recent book, “American Settler Colonialism: A History” (Palgrave-Macmillan)," has been selected as an Outstanding Academic Title by “Choice,” the official publication of the American Library Association.
The study by Hixson, distinguished professor of history, is described as a “groundbreaking work” that “shows that American history is defined by settler colonialism, providing a compelling framework through which to understand its rise to global dominance.”
According to ALA, "This prestigious list reflects the best in scholarly titles reviewed by 'Choice,' and brings with it the extraordinary recognition of the academic library community.” Less than 10 percent of some 7,000 titles reviewed each year make the annual list.
It is the second time that Hixson has achieved the Outstanding Academic Title designation. His book, “The Myth of American Diplomacy: National Identity and U.S. Foreign Policy” (Yale University Press), received the designation in 2008.
