New Roos Meet the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering09/06/2017
During the first week of classes freshman can find booths set up all over campus to advertise clubs and student organizations, or simply for directions to get to their next class. This year during Welcome Week, the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering set up shop on campus to spread the word about our college, its renowned programs of study and its brand new minor.
The booth was run by staff and student volunteers. John Fellenstein, Content Specialist for the Akron Global Polymer Academy, was joined by student organizations in greeting ‘new roos’ and sharing ways they can learn more about education in polymers. Our student organizations for both departments were incredibly helpful in running the booth and spreading the message across campus. Freshmen interested in the program were invited to make bracelets out of UV sensitive beads, or take home a pair of safety glasses.
The booth also invited students to attend an info session led by Dr. Kevin Cavicchi, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, which explained the programs in more detail. The seminar was a success, and lots of new students walked away with some free pizza and an idea of how polymers could be a good fit for their career.
All in all, this week was successful in spreading the message about the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering and its new undergraduate minor.
