Welcome New Students to the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering

The College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering (CPSPE) is gearing up for the start of the 2017-2018 school year. Student orientation took place on August 25th as CPSPE welcomed 81 new students from eight different countries: the United States, Saudi Arabia, Iran, India, China, Russia, Nepal, and Taiwan.

Forty-nine of these students were from the Department of Polymer Science (DPS), and they met at the Goodyear Polymer Center to be welcomed to the college by Dean Eric Amis. DPS Chair Dr. Coleen Pugh also welcomed the new arrivals to the college before reviewing first year curriculum and introducing the Polymer Science Student Organization (PSSO). After a break for lunch, students were given a walking tour of the campus and PhD candidates were dismissed for a Student Poster Session and reception.

The 32 Department of Polymer Engineering (DPE) students were given a very similar welcome at the Polymer Engineering Academic Center. They were first greeted by Dr. Amis and DPE Chair Dr. Sadhan Jana before reviewing curriculum and the advisor selection process. The Polymer Engineering Student Organization (PESO) introduced themselves and also provided a tour of the campus, as well as CPSPE buildings.

Their first day of orientation provided students with connections to students and teachers that they will be able to utilize throughout the next two semesters. Students were able to review common curriculum, learn more about the college and each other as they took the first step into a successful student career at CPSPE.

CPSPE is proud to welcome these bright and talented minds to the ever-growing polymer program and wish them all the best on their academic journeys.
